Sailor-style finishes

Our sailor-style finishes:

Double braided polyester splice:

  • The double braided splice, made on a rope with a polyester core, is a must-have for the running rigging of pleasure boats, to be used without moderation for the ends of halyards, sheets and blocks.
  • The spliced eye on double braided polyester rope preserves almost all of the rope’s breaking strength, whereas a knot would weaken it by half.

Double braided Dyneema core splicing:

  • The spliced eye on double braid, here on a rope with a Dyneema® core (the same technique is used for ropes with an aramid core, or mixed polypropylene/Dyneema type, etc.) and a polyester sheath (the material of the sheath is irrelevant: it is the core material that determines the technique used). This is referred to as a double braid spliced eye because the splice is made on a rope composed of a braided core and a braided sheath.

  • The spliced eye for double braided rope with a Dyneema® core retains almost all of the rope’s breaking strength, unlike knots, which can cause it to lose up to 50% of its strength. In addition, the splice makes it much easier to pass through deck fittings or rigging.
The stitching locks the splice in place and prevents it from coming undone when not under tension.

  • The Dyneema® sheathing added by our riggers at the head of the rope protects the rope where it needs it most: in the masthead blocks. This added sheathing can also be replaced once worn, without requiring the complete replacement of the rigging. The spliced eye retains almost all of the rope’s breaking strength, unlike knots, which can cause it to lose up to 50% of its strength.
The stitching locks the splice and prevents it from opening when not under tension.

The messenger loop:

  • The messenger loop, as its name suggests, is used to connect halyard messengers, reefing lines, or any other rigging passing through the mast or boom to secure them for replacement or winter storage.
It is a spliced eye made using only the rope sheath so as not to add extra thickness and to allow smooth passage through your masthead blocks and other halyard outlets.

The constrictor finish:

  • The constrictor finish (from the knot of the same name) neatly finishes all our ropes, without any rough edges for passing through the fittings.
In addition to being elegant, this finish prevents the rope from unraveling and is a great replacement for the traditional whipping, which only secures the rope sheath.
