The advantages of the hollow needle
Thehollow needle is intuitive and easy to use, ideal for beginners. Made of stainless steel, the hollow needle is strong and durable: it won’t deform even when you force it a little inside the Rope. But don’t pull on it with pliers or other tools. Once scratched, the surface of the hollow needle catches the Rope’s fibers and damages it!
Making a splice with a hollow needle
Splicing Ropes (the future core) is inserted into the hollow part at the back of the needle. A small metal point hooks the end and holds it in place. To make a splice, the spindles from the braid and slide the needle into the braid (thread well between the spindles to avoid damaging the Rope).
The needle is advanced into the future sheath by pushing the Rope towards the back of the hollow needle. This movement “opens ” the braid and allows thecore to progressinside the sheath.
